Overview

The Alumni Mentoring Network allows you to connect with mentors from across the world for career insights and advice, as and when you need it. 

The one-off meetings suit mentees who are looking for advice on simpler career questions, such as increasing their awareness of key skills in a particular industry. Mentees who are looking for help and guidance on more complex questions that may take longer to address, such as career planning, career changes, and adjusting to working life, can connect with mentors in ongoing partnerships focused on professional growth and development. 

ELIGIBILITY

Mentee applications are welcome from recent graduates and other alumni of Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington who are seeking advice or career mentoring from fellow alumni. If you are a current student looking for career mentoring, see the Alumni as Mentors programme. 
 

The mentors

Mentors are other alumni of the university and can range from recent graduates who can share their experiences of the graduate job market to more experience alumni who can share a wealth of information from years in the workplace.

APPLICATION AND Connection PROCESS

Sign up to the platform and create your mentee profile.
To help mentors understand how they can assist you, we ask you to provide information about your academic background, career history, as well as your preferences and motivations for joining the Alumni Mentoring Network. 

Consider what support you need and choose your connection type to suit 
The kind of support, advice or insights you need will determine the connection type that suits you best. There are two types: one-off meetings or ongoing partnerships. 
The mentors' profiles specify which type of connection they are available to provide.

Browse available mentors send connection requests
Browse  the available mentors on the platform and request a connection. The platform will recommend suitable mentors based on your profile, but you can also create your own search, if you are looking for something in particular. 
Your request will be sent to the mentor and they can choose to accept or decline the request, depending on their availability.

Your profile information

Each application is checked against our alumni records, to ensure the platform provides a dedicated space for our alumni community.
Your mentee profile will be shared with the mentors you request to connect with, as this information helps them determine whether they are the right mentor for your needs. 
If you sign up as both a mentor and a mentee, information relevant to your mentor role will be visible to mentees on the platform. 
All the information you provide (including your date of birth and platform activities) will be visible to administers.
